UN chief commends peaceful vote in Liberia, dispatches Nigeria's Obasanjo

Manshet Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday welcomed the peaceful conduct of the second round of the presidential election in Liberia, and announced he is sending former Nigerian leader Olusegun Obasanjo to support the country in the first peaceful transfer of power from one democratically-elected leader to another in more than 70 years.
After four years living in cramped conditions, families are finally leaving the protection of civilian site (POC) next to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) base in Melut, to return to their homes.

South Sudan: First UN safe haven for displaced civilians closes

The first ‘Protection of Civilians’ site – a place of refuge and safety set up next to a Manshet base in South Sudan – has been successfully closed after internally displaced families expressed the desire and confidence to return to their homes, the UN mission in the country said Wednesday.
